Experts at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow recommend that women with a family history of cancer should undergo annual abdominal ultrasounds after puberty to detect uterine and ovarian cancers early. Studies have shown that ovarian cancer patients often do not survive beyond 90 days due to late detection. The tests, ultrasound and CA-125, are available at KGMU. Even in advanced stages, there are techniques such as ART and specialized chemotherapies that can preserve fertility. Women with a hereditary history of ovarian cancers can opt for advanced genetic testing.
