Heavy rainstorms to hit southern China after Typhoon Koinu batters Taiwan

Typhoon Koinu, which has already caused one death and hundreds of injuries in Taiwan, is set to hit southern China in the next three days. China’s National Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for strong winds and expects heavy rainfall in Guangdong province, with amounts potentially exceeding 300 millimetres. The typhoon is predicted to weaken into a strong tropical storm as it travels west along China’s southern coast.
