Typhoon to bring heavy rain to China, Taiwan rushes aid to remote island

Typhoon Koinu is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to south China over the next three days. The typhoon has already caused damage in Taiwan, where it killed one person and injured hundreds. Orchid Island, one of the most affected areas, is facing a shortage of supplies and is relying on rainwater for cooking. In response to the approaching typhoon, Guangdong province has suspended ferry routes, high-speed trains, and closed tourist sites. Koinu is predicted to weaken as it moves west along China’s southern coast.
