AP, Telangana top self-help group savings in country

Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have emerged as the top two states in terms of savings by self-help groups (SHGs), according to a report by NABARD. Andhra Pradesh SHGs have accumulated savings of Rs 18,606 crore, while Telangana SHGs have saved Rs 5,156 crore. However, Telangana has a higher percentage of SHGs with outstanding loans (97%) compared to Andhra Pradesh (89%). The success of SHGs in these states has led to a significant increase in their numbers, with 16.9 lakh SHGs and 1.7 crore members in both states combined. The SHG movement started in Bangladesh and has empowered women economically and socially.
