Aishwarya’s long run: From Dahisar chawl to silver in Hangzhou
Kailash Mishra, a vegetable vendor in Mumbai, made numerous sacrifices to support his daughter Aishwarya’s athletic career. He sold land, mortgaged his wife’s jewelry, and took loans to ensure Aishwarya’s training and studies were not compromised. Aishwarya’s journey in athletics began when she won a marathon in fifth grade. She later switched to track running and has achieved success in the 400m event, winning medals at the Asian Athletics Championships and Asian Games. Aishwarya hopes her achievements will lead to a decent government job in Maharashtra to support her family.
