Chennai Metro to procure more trains for existing lines

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is seeking a loan of ₹300 crore ($40 million) to purchase five six-car trains for its existing phase-1 and extension lines. The loan is intended to meet the increasing demand for metro travel in Chennai. CMRL has already floated a tender to finalize a lender for the loan. The average daily footfall on the metro is currently 2.5 lakh (250,000) passengers. The loan will be used to procure an additional 30 train cars to cater to the growing ridership.
