Karnataka, India may have to rely on itself for relief from the drought crisis as the central government is yet to respond to a request to increase funding. The state estimates crop losses at around Rs 30,000 crore ($4.4 billion) and has sought Rs 4,860 crore ($717 million) in relief. However, officials expect to receive much less than what they have requested. The state government is committed to helping farmers in distress, regardless of support from the central government.
