Auto workers stop expanding strikes against Detroit Three after GM makes battery plant concession

By on October 7, 2023 0 7 Views

The United Auto Workers union has announced that it will not expand its strikes against Detroit’s three automakers after General Motors (GM) agreed to bring workers at battery factories into the union’s national contract. This breakthrough concession by GM means that the four U.S. GM battery plants will now be covered under the union’s master agreement. The union president stated that this development will not only change negotiations but also the future of the union and the industry. Talks are ongoing with Ford and Stellantis, and additional plants may be added to the strikes in the future.
