Wayne Rooney resigns as DC United head coach after missing playoffs

Former England international footballer Wayne Rooney has resigned as head coach of Major League Soccer’s DC United following the team’s failure to secure a playoff spot. The decision was mutually agreed, and the club’s CEO, Jason Levien, stated that the decision was best for the club to have a new General Manager to implement a new philosophy and structure. Rooney, who previously managed Derby County, joined DC United in July 2022 after a stint as a player in 2018 and 2019.
