Salman Rushdie is still in critical condition, but his usual “feisty and defiant” sense of humour remains intact, and the “cowardly attack” on the Mumbai-born author from a man with a knife cannot silence a man with a pen, his son and the New York State Governor have said. Rushdie, 75, was taken off a ventilator on Saturday and could talk after he was stabbed on stage at a literary event in New York state on Friday.
