Woman loses Rs 5L to crooks claiming to be from crime branch

A senior executive from a private firm in New Delhi lost around Rs 5 lakh after being tricked by individuals posing as representatives of a courier company and the cybercrime branch. The accused engaged the victim in Skype calls for two hours, convincing her to transfer funds from her account. They claimed that the money was temporarily being attached and threatened serious action against her. This is a recurring scam, with similar incidents reported in the past involving individuals claiming to be from the Mumbai Police’s crime branch and the Maharashtra Narcotics Division.
