New research warns that up to 2.2 billion people in India and the Indus Valley could be exposed to extreme heat beyond human tolerance by the end of the century due to climate change. If global temperatures rise by 1 degree Celsius or more, billions of individuals will experience heat and humidity levels that exceed their ability to naturally cool themselves. The regions most affected include eastern Pakistan, northern India, eastern China, and sub-Saharan Africa.
