SC asks Gujarat for time period in which remission pleas decided

The Supreme Court has directed the Gujarat government to specify the time period within which remission pleas of prisoners are decided, as well as the number of pending cases in which prisoners have challenged the state’s decision to reject their premature release. The court noted the delay in the state’s decision-making process and instructed the government to provide an affidavit stating the time taken to decide remission pleas.
