Police detain contract nurses demanding regularisation
Over 700 contract nurses in Tamil Nadu were detained by the police as they were heading to protest for permanent job status. The nurses claimed that the government had not fulfilled its promise to make their jobs permanent. Many of the nurses are still working on a contract basis for a lower salary and receive less than half the amount given to permanent nurses. After meeting with the health secretary, the association announced that they would withdraw the strike as their demands would be fulfilled.
