UN rights body adopts resolution to probe rights abuses in war-torn Sudan

The United nations human rights council has passed a resolution to investigate the humanitarian situation in Sudan, where the army and a paramilitary group have been engaged in conflict for the past six months. The resolution calls for an end to atrocities, the laying down of weapons, and unhindered humanitarian access. Violence and displacement have escalated since the conflict began, particularly in West Darfur.
