By 2041, Delhi may generate over 19,000 tonnes of waste every day
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has requested 200 acres of land for the safe disposal of solid waste, as the city is expected to generate around 19,500 tonnes of waste per day by 2041. The detailed project report suggests reutilizing land from existing landfills and reclaiming them by 2024. However, these engineered landfills will be exhausted by 2032, requiring an additional 200 acres of land for waste disposal. The projections are based on the Master Plan of Delhi 2041. The city also needs land for bio-methanation plants and CNG plants to process segregated wet waste.
