Egyptian opposition candidate ends campaign for presidential poll

Ahmed el-Tantawy, a potential challenger to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in the upcoming elections, has announced that he will not be running due to not securing the required number of public endorsements. Tantawy’s campaign alleged that officials and pro-government thugs hindered their efforts to gather support, while security forces arrested his supporters and blocked campaign events.
