State caps annual tuition charges of pvt colleges at Rs 1.1 lakh, bars capitation fee

The state higher education department in Kolkata has set a cap on tuition and other fees charged by private and self-financed colleges, including private engineering colleges. The maximum annual fee that can be charged has been fixed at Rs 1.1 lakh. The notice also states that no capitation fee can be demanded or realized from students. The fee structure for BTech, BPharm, and BArch courses has also been fixed. Professional colleges with certain accreditations can charge an additional 10% tuition fees at the time of admission. Violation of the fee structure will result in punitive action.
