City’s Jew Lane, once home to entire community, has just one family now

The conflict between Israel and Hamas has caused anxiety among the small Jewish community in Rasta Peth, Pune. The Succath Shelomo Synagogue, where prayers were held for the safety of their kin, had very few attendees. The community has dwindled over the years, with only one family living on Jew Lane, and the rest either moving elsewhere or migrating to Israel. The Bene Israel Jews, descendants of 14 survivors of a shipwreck 2,700 years ago, now number only 200 in the city.
