Canada withdraws 41 diplomats from India amid diplomatic row

A total of 41 Canadian diplomats have left India following a dispute over the murder of a Sikh separatist leader. The diplomats’ withdrawal was prompted by India revoking their official status, a move Foreign Minister Melanie Joly deemed unreasonable and in violation of diplomatic conventions. Joly stated that Canada would not reciprocate India’s actions as it would set a dangerous precedent for diplomatic immunity.
