Astronomers detect radio signal that took 8bn yrs to reach Earth

Astronomers have discovered a powerful radio wave burst, named FRB 20220610A, that has traveled 8 billion years to reach Earth. Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are short bursts of radio waves with unknown origins. The burst released energy equivalent to our Sun’s output over 30 years. The source galaxy of the FRB is older and more distant than any previously discovered. FRBs could help measure the matter between galaxies, providing insights into the universe’s structure.
