The way Centre approves collegium picks is ‘troublesome: SC

The Supreme Court on Friday disapproved the practice of Centre to “pick and choose” out of names recommended by its collegium for judgeship in high courts and apex court, terming it “troublesome” which affects seniority of judges. The bench said that government should not do segregation as the names are recommended by collegium keeping in view the seniority of judges and segregation of names disturbs the seniority. It expressed satisfaction over the progress in last few weeks after it warned the Centre to be prompt in taking decisions.
