Dubai logistics giant DP World has signed three contracts with the Tanzanian government to operate part of Dar es Salaam’s port for 30 years. The controversial deal gives DP World exclusive management of several moorings and the opportunity to manage all of Tanzania’s ports. Critics argue that the deal threatens Tanzanian sovereignty and security, but the government believes it will enhance efficiency and increase revenues. DP World plans to invest $250 million in the port over the next five years. The contracts will be reviewed every five years.
