‘Ahmedabad, Surat turning into nation’s cybercrime hotspots’
Gujarat, specifically Ahmedabad and Surat, has emerged as a hotspot for cybercrime in India, according to a white paper by the Future Crime Research Foundation (FCRF). The report analyzed cybercrime incidents nationwide from January 2020 to June 2023 and identified 83 towns and cities across 18 states that are rapidly becoming cybercrime hubs. The most common types of cybercrime include online financial fraud, hacking, and impersonation. Poor KYC rules, recruitment of unemployed individuals, and the use of virtual private networks (VPNs) were cited as key factors contributing to the rise in cybercriminal activity.
