Agniveer from Buldhana dies at Siachen Glacier

A soldier, Agniveer Akshay Laxman Gawate, died at Siachen Glacier after complaining of uneasiness. He is the first casualty since the Agnipath recruitment scheme began. The cause of his death is still being determined. Gawate served for nine months and 21 days and leaves behind his parents and a younger sister. The Indian Army has honored his sacrifice and his family will receive insurance, ex-gratia, and full pay. However, there have been criticisms about the lack of family pension and other benefits under the Agnipath scheme.
