Row as Dalit activist ends life over ‘police harassment’

A Dalit man’s suicide note, naming three police officers including the circle inspector, has sparked protests in Karwar. Maruti Naik, a Dalit activist, accused the officers of torturing him after he filmed a non-Hindu Dalit activist allegedly abusing Hindu gods. Naik’s family also alleged that he was stabbed by the activist’s relatives, but police dismissed the incident. An FIR has been lodged against the activist and two others, but the accused police officers have not been named.
