‘Redevelopment will boost exports from MEPZ to Rs 30,000 crore’
The Madras Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) at Tambaram, India’s third SEZ established in 1984, is set for vertical redevelopment to bring in more companies, boost exports to ₹30,000 crore, create 1 lakh jobs, and increase the value of annual exports. The redevelopment plan involves the construction of multi-storey flatted factories to maximize land use and accommodate more units. The initial phase will include a 2 lakh sqm building, with further expansion depending on market demand. The estimated cost of redevelopment is between ₹2,000 crore to ₹2,500 crore.
