BBC to no longer use ‘militant’ to describe Hamas
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has decided to label Hamas as a “terrorist organization” after initially using alternative terms in their coverage. The change came after criticism from viewers and pressure from the Board of Deputies of British Jews. The BBC will now refer to Hamas as a proscribed terrorist organization by the UK government, or simply as Hamas. The decision follows a discussion between BBC Director General Tim Davie and Board of Deputies President Marie van der Zyl. The UK has referred to Hamas as an “Islamic terrorist group” since 2021.
