Who is Tom Emmer, a new Republican nominated for US House speaker?

US House Republicans have chosen Tom Emmer, the Majority Leader, as their nominee for speaker after the previous two nominees failed to secure enough support. Tom Emmer, aged 62, has represented Minnesota’s 6th congressional district since 2015. This district covers suburbs to the northwest of Minneapolis. He previously served as the chair of the House Republicans’ campaign arm from 2019 to 2022, contributing to their success in regaining the majority in 2022.
