Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has admitted that exiting the mobile phone business was one of the most difficult decisions he made. He believes that the company could have done better by reinventing the category of computing. Microsoft’s attempts at mobile phones, including the launch of Windows Phone and the acquisition of Nokia’s smartphone division, failed to gain traction against iOS and Android. In 2017, Microsoft officially killed the Windows phone but still has a minor presence in the market with the Surface Duo.
