NCERT panel suggests using ‘India’ instead of ‘Bharat’ in textbooks

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) panel in India has approved a proposal to change the way the country is referred to in school textbooks. The proposal suggests replacing ‘India’ with ‘Bharat’ and introducing ‘classical history’ instead of ‘ancient history’. The committee also recommended including the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) in the curriculum for all subjects. The changes are being made in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
