More than 600 phuchkas, chemically treated and used as decorations for a pandal in Behala, Kolkata, went missing. Organizers, Behala Natun Dal, are concerned that those who ate the phuchkas may fall ill. They had warned visitors not to eat the phuchkas as they were chemically treated. The chemicals used could potentially cause stomach ailments. Some of the missing phuchkas were mounted on sal patas that were hung from the pandal interiors, while others were offered to the idols.
