Cloud seeding boosts rainfall by 18% in Solapur

A recent study published in the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society (BAMS) reveals that a cloud seeding experiment conducted in the Solapur region of Maharashtra resulted in 18% more rainfall than normal conditions. The experiment involved hygroscopic cloud seeding, which triggered rainfall in convective clouds. The study also evaluated glaciogenic seeding in cold clouds but found no significant impact on rainfall at the seeding location. However, an increase in rainfall was observed in the downwind area of the seeded region. Scientists recommend the use of hygroscopic cloud seeding to enhance rainfall in water-scarce regions.
