‘Corpn mulling total cattle ban in city limits’
The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is considering a total ban on cattle-rearing within city limits due to the increasing number of attacks by stray cattle on pedestrians and motorists. The city currently has over 5,000 stray cows owned by 226 individuals, many of whom are repeat offenders. The GCC has collected ₹75 lakh in fines this year and filed five FIRs. The highest number of stray cows is found in Koyambedu, followed by Triplicane and Mylapore. The GCC is planning midnight operations to catch the cattle and is also reviewing court judgments for any restraint orders.
