Both LG & CM bat for civil def personnel

The Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor’s office are at odds over the decision to sack 10,000 civil defence volunteers. The Lieutenant Governor claims to have approved the Chief Minister’s proposal to terminate their services and re-employ some of them as home guards. However, the Chief Minister’s office disputes this, stating that they have proposed appointing the volunteers as home guards and bus marshals. Only 189 volunteers employed in the disaster management authority will retain their jobs. The government has threatened to approach the Supreme Court if the volunteers are terminated.
