Weather hits kharif supply, onion retails at Rs 80 per kg
The supply of fresh kharif onions at the APMC yard in Vashi has been affected by fluctuating weather conditions, resulting in a price increase to Rs 50/kg in the market and Rs 80/kg in the retail market. The crop, usually available in October, is expected to arrive in December. The scarcity of supply is causing prices to rise, with predictions of reaching Rs 60/kg in the APMC market and Rs 100/kg in retail. The all-India average retail onion price has also increased by 57% to Rs 47/kg, leading the government to sell buffer onion at a subsidized rate of Rs 25/kg.
