Supreme Court for transparent electoral bonds; govt backs privacy

The Supreme Court of India has raised concerns about the lack of transparency in the country’s electoral bond scheme. The scheme allows corporate houses to donate large sums of money to political parties, while keeping the identity of the donors confidential. The court highlighted that this creates an imbalance in the system, as the ruling party can know who has funded opposition parties, but the opposition parties have no way of finding out who has donated to the ruling party.
