SC: What’s up in Madras HC? How can CJ wield such power?

The Supreme Court has supported Madras High Court judge Justice N Anand Venkatesh’s decision to examine the validity of a trial judge’s quick acquittal of Tamil Nadu education minister K Ponmudy and his wife in a corruption case. Justice Venkatesh had questioned the unusual speed at which the trial judge proceeded with the case and delivered a lengthy judgment just before retiring.
