Many injured in Manipur’s Kangpokpi firing

Unidentified men reportedly opened fire in the Kangchup foothills, Kangpokpi district near Imphal on Tuesday, resulting in nine people getting injured, including two Manipur police officers and a woman. The incident occured after a large group from Meitei community, including women from Phayeng, went to Kangchup hillside to ‘investigate’ if some individuals from a different community had entered the area. Upon arrival, suspected militants from the hills initiated the gunfire. Subsequently, village volunteers and security forces arrived at the scene, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
