Government-quota students from the 2017 MBBS batch are being asked to join the one-year compulsory rural service, with merit-based exemptions now being offered. Those who refuse to take up rural posting will face a penalty of Rs 10 lakh. A total of 4,170 students are eligible for counseling this year. The delay in the notification was due to recent amendments. Online counseling will be held for available vacancies, with candidates having the option to select a preferred location for service and apply for a merit-based exemption based on their MBBS scores.
