A seat can’t go unrepresented beyond a time limit: HC to EC

The Election Commission of India (ECI) will challenge the High Court order to immediately hold the by-poll in the SC. ​No amount of administrative inconvenience can undermine the statutory obligation of the ECI to hold a by-poll, nor is it the concern of the Commission to decide the effectiveness of the candidate for the full or remaining term, observed the Bombay high court. The petitioner’s counsel is hopeful that the ECI will issue the by-poll notification soon.
