Gods set to get their own land in Karnataka
The Karnataka government is fast-tracking the registration of temple properties worth crores of rupees in the name of presiding deities to prevent misuse and ownership disputes. The state’s muzrai department has already registered properties belonging to major temples in Bengaluru and other districts. In 2020, a survey and digitization of temple records were initiated to consolidate the properties. The government aims to end unilateral control over temple riches and ensure the properties are utilized for the benefit of the temples. The move is similar to the registration process for properties belonging to Masjids by the Wakf Board.
