Turkish police detain 33 people accused of plotting attacks ahead of local elections, official says

Turkish police have arrested 33 individuals with alleged connections to the Islamic State group. The suspects were apprehended for planning attacks ahead of the upcoming local elections, according to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya. Counter-terrorism police in Sakarya, located in northwest Turkey, conducted raids where they found weapons, cash, and “organizational documents.” The nationwide elections are scheduled to take place on March 31.
