Masala row: FSSAI to check quality of spices sold in India

Food Safety and Standards Authority is sampling powdered spices from all brands nationwide, including MDH and Everest, prompted by Singapore and Hong Kong authorities’ alerts. The Hong Kong Centre for Food Safety detected ethylene oxide, a carcinogenic pesticide, in select spice packs from MDH and Everest, raising concerns. They further instructed vendors to stop sale of the products and remove them.
