A struggle ahead for desi walnuts as imported varieties may get cheaper

Consumers in India can expect a slight reduction in the cost of California walnuts in three months due to the removal of additional import duties. Walnut consumption in the country is high, but the present crop from Kashmir cannot meet the demand. Imported walnuts are slightly cheaper than Kashmir walnuts due to the larger volumes produced. However, research shows that Kashmir walnuts have superior nutritional value. The Indian walnut industry needs to improve yield per acre and cultivation techniques to compete with overseas markets.
