Afspa to remain in only four Assam dists for 6 more mths

The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (Afspa) has been lifted from four districts in Assam and extended in four others for another six months. The four districts where Afspa has been lifted are Jorhat, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, and Dima Hasao. The remaining four districts – Charaideo, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia – will continue to have the “disturbed areas” status due to ongoing militant activities. The Disturbed Area Act and Afspa have been withdrawn from the rest of Assam.
