A gang of pickpockets in Kolkata has been snatching mobile phones from buses and trains and using them to access banking apps and steal money. One victim lost Rs 42,000 within 15 minutes of his phone being snatched. The police are examining CCTV footage to identify the suspects, but the thieves are becoming more sophisticated and are now targeting personal details stored on stolen phones. The police have advised mobile phone users not to save passwords in a way that can be easily seen and to use PIN or biometric authentication.
