Amid strained ties, Canada official won’t attend G20 event

Canada’s Senate speaker, Raymonde Gagne, will not be attending a parliamentary speakers’ summit in India due to tense diplomatic relations between the two countries. The reason for Gagne’s non-attendance has not been disclosed. It is unclear if Canada will have any representation at the event. Relations between Canada and India have deteriorated since Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused the Indian government of involvement in the assassination of a Sikh extremist in Canada.
