Australian Aboriginal leader threatened ahead of referendum on Indigenous rights

An Indigenous senator in Australia, Lidia Thorpe, was subjected to threats and racial abuse in a video posted on social media. The incident occurred just before the country’s referendum on whether to constitutionally recognize its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The video showed a man burning the Aboriginal flag, performing a Nazi salute, and threatening Thorpe. The video has since been taken down, and the Australian Federal Police are investigating the matter.
