Bengal has successfully reduced its rural inflation by half in August 2023, the sharpest decline among all states in the past year. Data from the National Statistical Office (NSO) reveals that Bengal’s rural retail inflation was 5.07% in August 2023, down from 10.29% in August 2022. The state’s urban inflation also decreased from 7.37% to 4.46% in the same period. Other states such as Assam, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir have also managed to control rural inflation. The success can be attributed to the growth of agriculture, government measures, and social welfare projects.
